Why Heavyweight Cotton Is the Only Honest Choice

There is a version of this brand that uses cheaper fabric. It would have cost less to make. It would have cost less to sell. The margins would have been better.

We did not build that version.

Heavyweight cotton — real heavyweight cotton, the kind that holds its shape after fifty washes, the kind that sits on your shoulders with presence instead of draping like paper — is not a luxury choice. It is the only honest choice when the thing you are making is supposed to carry meaning.

Thin fabric communicates thinness. It communicates the fast-fashion logic that says: make it cheap, sell it cheap, move on to the next thing. That logic works for brands that exist to fill a trend cycle. RMF does not exist to fill a trend cycle. RMF exists to carry a name permanently.

Permanence requires weight. Not metaphorically — literally. The physical heft of a good garment is part of how it communicates its own seriousness. When you put on an RMF shirt and feel the weight of it, that weight is doing work. It is saying: this was made to last. This was not an afterthought. This cost something, and it was worth it.

The person this brand honors deserved something worth it.

So we use heavyweight cotton. We will keep using it. It is the only honest choice.
